What's happening? ¿Qué pasa?
Week 1: Students learned vocabulary related to greetings and farewells. We discussed important reasons to learn Spanish, Spanish surnames, Hispanic culture, states with high concentrations of Spanish-speakers, and cognates related to geography. In addition, every student was assigned a Spanish name to use in class.
Week 2: Students learned the spanish alphabet, more social expressions, and facts and common misconceptions about Hispanics living in the U.S. We discussed a special event in a Hispanic community, la quinceañera.
Week 3: Students identified Spanish-speaking countries and their capital cities. Quiz 1 (Greetings, farewells, and basic facts of the Spanish alphabet). Introduction of numbers 0-20. Fun game to review capital cities and numbers.
Week 4: Students learned numbers 21-30. We discussed Project #1 - Hispanic Celebrity Interview. Due date pending (Hurricane Irma). No school on 9/8/2017.
